Works-in-Progress Wednesday

I have things I’m working on this week – can you believe it?! I’ve been able to paint one-handed as the jars of paint are so small I can hold them with the free fingers on my left hand, opening them with my right… but the glaze jars are too big for me to wrangle. That’s OK, though, because it’s given me a lot of time to catch up on smaller things I haven’t had time to work on, which is nice.

A not-so-long-ago photo for #throwbackthursday; just to yesterday, to demonstrate how I was painting mostly one-handed. Sorry/not sorry for the camera focus on all that gray in my hair ("It's not the years, it's the mileage.") #tbt #ceramics

Also, I’ve been down-graded to a finger cast instead of a half-hand cast, and that means I’ve been cleared to knit! I’m under instructions to stop when it hurts, and rest, but every day it hurts a little bit less and I can knit a little bit longer before resting.

I forgot to post this last night, but... Guess who's been cleared to knit?! I can't do more than half a row before I need to rest, and it is a little awkward with the finger cast, but I have a friend who's going to need a chemo hat soon and nothing heal

I have to wear the finger cast for at least two more weeks – that’ll put me six weeks away from the original fracture, and five weeks away from surgery. Why does it seem like longer than that in my head? What a long, strange month June was. Now it’s July, though, and  I don’t know about y’all but I’m ready for a new start!

So. That’s what I’m working on this week… how about y’all? What are you working on this week? Tell me about your week, or your entire last month – I feel like I’ve been out of touch with y’all!

  1. I’m so glad you can do some painting AND knitting! That’s wonderful. I spent a jillion hours thinking about the work involved in getting something ready to embroider, then finally last night spent the actual 30 minutes it required. (Why can’t I remember that procrastination never pays?) I have a pair of socks on the needles, an embroidery project in progress, and a trillion more projects in the queue!

    • Why do we do that to ourselves – spend so much time thinking and planning/dreaming about the work, and it gets so big in our heads, and then takes like a minute to do when we actually sit down to do it?! Oh, brains.

Thank you – I’m excited to be able to Make Things again. That was really the worst part… worse than the pain, even (which actually isn’t that bad, but, painkillers, followed by weeks of Tylenol….). Makers gotta make, am I right?!

I’m finally having a minute to catch up on oggling everyone’s 15-in-2015 projects, and I’m loving seeing you represented there, Bonnie! Whoot, whoot!

    • Thank you, Lori! Every day is better than the day before… physical therapy keeps getting harder, though! I can see why other people look grumpy to be there — it’s starting to tire me out to the point where I want a nap after, and that’s just for my hand! Seriously, though, I’m tired of sitting around (you’re right, time crawls) so I’m excited to be able to do a little more each day.
