Works-in-Progress Wednesday (08/17/16)

It feels weird to write a works-in-progress post when yesterday was the first day of my work week… a day that I mostly spent catching up on things so I didn’t really get that much work done! Here’s what I’m hoping to accomplish this week, though…

In ceramics, thank goodness Cetty is available to help me glaze right now… otherwise I definitely would not finish what I want before the craft show on the 27th! It’s a glazing glazing glazing party all up in this studio right now. I’m trying to find time to photograph and list five more of her raku pieces, too… we’ll see if I can get to that before Friday, for a shop update!

In soap, I’ve finished wrapping everything I needed to, and I’ll tease the upcoming soaps over the next few weeks. I mean, I’ll tease you about the upcoming soaps, not, like, stand next to my soap and go “neener neener neener” at it. (Get it? Tease? See what I did, there? This is what you get when I blog before coffee, y’all!)

In yarn, two things coming up this week… I’m getting ready to order base yarn for the next round of club, and I’m getting ready to release a new permanent colorway, Blue Jean, on Friday. Eeep! Such excite! Much wow!

…. and that’s really all I’ve got, this week. So much to do, so little time. How about y’all? What do you have going on this week? Anything exciting?

Works-in-Progress Wednesday (08/03/16)

What are y’all working on this week? I’m up to my elbows in soap and ceramics….

In ceramics, I’m madly making things to take with me to the Big Bang Bazaar on August 27th. (Near Orlando? Come see me!) I’ve made baby head vases/pen cups/catch-alls, Biohazard mugs, TARDIS mugs… unfortunately I had some problems with those last two and need to make more. The good news (for y’all) on that is that I’ll have some seconds/imperfects on sale soon… Sigh.

In soap, I made a LOT of soap last week, and need to get it all wrapped. That’s taking a small back seat to ceramics, and I’m working on it here and there as I can this week. I’m bringing back some Halloween soaps this year, putting together a little guest set of five soaps. More on that in a couple of weeks!

In yarn, I’m getting ready to release Blue Jean in a couple of weeks. So far I’m happy with how it’s working up, even if I have given myself a David Bowie earworm every time I’ve picked the socks up. There are worse things, though! And I’m plotting my next limited edition yarn colorway. It’ll be both similar to and different from the other limited editions I’ve released this year….! And I’m still researching folk and fairy tales for the next yarn club. I’ve got two of them picked out, but haven’t finalized the third yet…

In knitting, I’m searching about for a good pattern for a new pair of Sock Monkey socks. I’ve knit them before in Cookie A’s Monkey pattern (and worn them out) and also my own Fissility pattern (and worn them out). So it’s time for a new pair because Sock Monkey! I’m still thinking a chevron/ripple pattern, because the color repeats lend themselves to that very well, but… I don’t know what. That’s really kind of my go-to for sock patterns because that sort of pattern works well with a lot of yarns, but I’ve either made the ones I have three or more times or the ones I haven’t made look like the ones I have. SO. I spend about 15 minutes a day looking at sock patterns on Ravelry, heh.

In other things, next week will by my 13th wedding anniversary. For Lucky Thirteen, we’ve just decided to go spend a few days at Walt Disney World, just about one of my favorite places. I turn into a giant five-year-old when I’m there, and at the end of the day my feet hurt from walking and my face hurts from smiling. It’s my favorite! We’re going Friday through Monday of next week, and that shouldn’t interrupt anything shipping out by more than a day or two. I’ll have my laptop with me, so I can communicate in the mornings before we head out for the day, if anything comes up and anyone needs me for anything.

That’s it, that’s what I’m about this week. How about y’all? What are you working on?

This Week Only: Day of the Dead mugs

This week’s limited-time offering: Day of the Dead mugs

El Día de los Muertos, El Dia de Muertos, Dias de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead; celebrated November 1st and 2nd as the living joyously receive back the souls of departed loved ones for just a short time. It is a celebration of life, this triumph over death, and also a reminder that death is the great equalizer – it comes to both poor and rich alike. Celebrate those mornings – or any morning that you need a reminder of a loved one and the passage of time – with these Day of the Dead skeleton-inspired mugs.

As they are hand-built, each one is a little bit different as far as height and weight go, but the approximate dimensions are listed below:

Approximate Height: 4.5 inches
Approximate Width: 3.25 inches
Approximate Weight: 8 to 11 ounces
Holds Approximately: 16 ounces

You may be asking “what’s the deal with these ‘this week only’ pieces, anyway?”. While my primary online shop is HaldeCraft, I do have a small Etsy store (which is where I started out). Every year around August and September, I beef up the Etsy shop in preparation for the holidays… and every year I don’t do as good a job as I intended, because I’m already busy then. So this year I’m trying to build it up in June and July, and at the same time, bring in some new items and planned redesigns of other items into the primary shop. All during the summer, when it’s a little slower, rather than thinking about it all summer and then not having enough time in the Fall. I want to make sure that people who follow my primary shop have a last chance to get some things at a marked-down price before I move it over to Etsy, I want to make sure people know some things are moving, and as sometimes the “this week only” items are limited one-shots, I want a place for them without having to write and keep track of an entire listing when the item might sell out within a few days.

Any questions? Give me a shout! Thanks, y’all!
